Properly Remove a Tick from Your Dog

Next to fleas, ticks are probably the worst insect-enemy of your dog. These parasites attach themselves to your dog's skin. If they go undetected, ticks can stay attached for hours at a time. They use their mouth parts to suck blood out of your pet; that's what ticks feed on. At the same time, they spread many contagious diseases from host to host. The sooner a tick is removed from a dog, the better. That's why you need to know how to properly remove a tick from your dog. And that's why it's so important to check your dog periodically. Especially if he/she travels into the woods. Ticks can especially be found in tall grasses, bushes, and in leafy trees and other thick growth.

Since ticks are blood-sucking parasites, they are always looking for a warm-blooded host to attach itself to. It uses dogs, humans, and other mammals. These insects can only crawl; they can't jump or fly. So they also use their host as a means of transportation.

To properly remove a tick from your dog, you'll have to identify it first. You'll need to sit your dog down in front of you. Run your hands over his/her
ears and head. Feel through their fur for hard bumps near the skin. These hard bumps won't move. Then, proceed down the neck, across their back, and down their hindside. Also, check their chests, tummies, legs, and feet.

If you do find a hard bump, spread your dog's fur apart in that area and examine it. If the bump turns out to be an insect that has eight legs, it could well be a tick. And the sooner you properly remove a tick from your dog, the better. You probably won't see its head because a tick buries it into the host its currently feeding on.

First, gather together some supplies you'll need to remove the tick from your dog. You'll need a pair of tweezers, rubbing alcohol, cotton balls, and maybe a glass jar with a lid. If you want to keep the tick in case your dog is infected with a contagious disease, you can place it in the jar. A little rubbing alcohol poured in the bottom of the jar will kill the tick. You may also need an assistant if your dog is fidgety and won't hold still while you properly remove the tick. Next, wash your hands with an antibacterial soap. Use a cotton ball to dab some rubbing alcohol around the area where the insect is located. Then, sterilize the tweezers with a new cotton ball and more rubbing alcohol. Then use the tweezers to firmly grasp near the head of the tick. Your goal, to properly remove a tick from your dog, is to remove the entire tick, head and all. Slowly pull the tweezers up and away from your dog's skin. If the head of the blood-sucking parasite is still attached, try to pull it out with the tweezers.

Immediately place the tick into the jar with the rubbing alcohol. Seal it closed with the lid.

Once you properly remove a tick from your dog, use a clean cotton ball and more rubbing alcohol to sterilize the bite location on its skin. Then, finish up by washing your hands with an antibacterial soap.
Watch your dog and check the bite location on his or her skin for the next three to four weeks at least. Watch in case redness and swelling develops. Unfortunately, it may take several months for the symptoms of Lyme Disease, for example, to appear. If the tick did spread a contagious disease to your dog, your pet may exhibit symptoms such as fever, weakness, loss of appetite, swollen glands, et cetera. Contact your veterinarian immediately if you notice any change in your dog.

If you live in an area where ticks and Lyme Disease are a particular problem, ask your veterinarian about a Lyme Disease vaccination. This way, even if you do have to properly remove a tick from your dog, he or she will be vaccinated against this Disease. You can also inquire about a topical treatment for your dog that will help keep ticks away. Some flea treatments actually repel ticks too. Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever; Biliary Fever; Tick Paralysis; and Tularemia.

Traveling with Your Toy Dog Breed Planning a Pet Friendly Vacation

For owners of chihuahuas, yorkshire terriers, pomeranians, toy poodles and other toy dog breeds, fido is just like one of the kids. When family vacation time comes, you dont have to leave your small dog breed at home, at the vet, or with a pet sitter. Traveling with your toy dog breed can be simple if you do your research beforehand.

Safety First, Dont Forget
Your small dog breed needs to be up to date on all his or her shots. Make sure you have copies of proof of vaccinations and a health certificate if required. Its very important that your small dog breed is wearing a rabies tag (that says when they have been vaccinated for rabies) in addition to the standard pet id tag. Additionally you want to have your vets number available and the number and address of a vet at your desired travel location.

Supplies you will need:
A small dog carrier or travel crate. Whether you are traveling by car or by plane you will need a protective carrier for your small dog. It is not safe to let your toy breed roam around in the car. And airlines require that your small dog be kenneled. Whether you choose a cute Paris Hilton like carrier or a standard looking kennel is up to you.
Small dog clothes. If you are going to a cool climate, your small dog breed will need a sweater or jacket. If you are traveling in the cold winter considered purchasing dog boots for your toy dog breed. If you are going to a warm tropical climate dog sunglasses are available.
Dog leash. Do not forget your small dogs leash. You will need it to take your toy dog breed for walks or pet friendly attractions.
Food and water bowls. Its best to travel light. Instead of lugging your at-home bowls, purchase a portable dog travel bowl.
Dont forget the premium dog food that your toy breed is used to. Small dogs can be picky so travel with the food your toy breed normally eats.
Medications. Remember to bring any medications that your dog may need. Also bring flea and tick spray if your small dog is not already on preventative.

General Air Travel Rules
Make advanced reservations with the airline. Airlines are not required to carry animals.
Some airlines allow small dog breeds that are 10 pounds or less to travel in the cabin if they fit underneath the passengers seat
Most airlines require a health certificate
Your pet should be at least 8 weeks old
Do not feed your pet before travel
Your small dog must be in a USDA approved pet carrier or kennel

Car Travel Tips
Traveling by car with your small dog breed can be pleasant. Be sure to take a few car rides with your toy dog breed before your actual trip. This will allow your small dog to get used to the car environment. When its time for your trip with your small dog be sure to have a kennel or small dog carrier. Your toy dog breed should always be safe while traveling. If you are crossing state lines, be sure you know the pet regulations. If its going to be a long trip, plan on making a few stops so your toy dog breed can stretch and use the bathroom.

Dont give your small dog food prior to your trip. Feed your small dog in the evening and pack a few snacks and water for the trip. Be sure not to leave your pet in the car alone. During hot weather car temperatures can reach over 110 F rather quickly. During cold weather, the temperatures can decrease just as quickly.

If you are on the road and your pet needs emergency care, call the American Animal Hospital Association at 800-252-2242 for the location of the nearest AAHA-certified veterinarian.

Pet Friendly Lodging

Never sneak your toy dog breed into a hotel. There are plenty of hotels that provide pet friendly lodging for a nominal fee. Resources like Fido Friendly, Petswelcome and AAA can provide you with a list of pet friendly accommodations. Additionally books such as Pets Welcome: , and The Pet Travel and Fun Authority of Best-of-State Places to Play, Stay & Have Fun Along the Way: 35,000+ Accommodations, Pet Sitters, Kennels, Dog Parks & Camps, Beaches, Boating, Skiing, Festivals, Events, Attractions, Pet Bakeries, Tons-of-Pet Fun & More Guide! by M.E. Nelson, can provide lots of hotels that not only allow small dogs, but cater to them.

However, sometimes the lists can be outdated so before you make your reservation, be sure to ask if they allow pets, the regulations and the cost. When making your reservation, keep in mind that it will be easier to take your toy dog breed outside for bathroom breaks if your room is on the ground floor.

Make sure you completely understand the hotels regulations. Some hotels do not allow pets to be left in the room unattended. But if this is not the case, and you leave your toy dog breed in the room, be sure to put the do not disturb sign on the door. If possible, leave your small dog in his kennel or small dog carrier and be sure to leave the TV or radio on so your small dog feels you are still there.

Before you take your small dog for a walk, be sure to ask the hotel management where you can walk your dog.

When its night time have your small dog sleep in their crate, small dog carrier or on the floor. Even if they are used to sleeping in the bed with you, doing so at a hotel is not appropriate.

Most importantly, be sure to clean up after your toy breed.

Extras
A few extra things you may want to pack for the trip include:

A list of pet friendly activities
Window shades for hot days
Towels to wipe muddy paws
Dog treats
Dog cleaning wipes
A few dog toys
Puppy pads
Dog waste removal bags
A first aid kit
A dog brush
Your toy breeds favorite blanket
Travel drops to help with motion sickness
A recent photograph in case your toy breed wanders off

What Dog Supplies Do I Need For My New Pet

When a puppy comes into a new family besides love he requires dog supplies. Owners might not know a lot of things about what a dog needs in order to grow healthy and well.

There are a lot of dog stores with a lot of dog products exposed but sometimes it is difficult to decide from all those hundreds of dog products what dog supply to buy.

The term of dog supply refers to: dog beds, blankets, food, bowls and feeders, furniture, bones, cages, even books, and calendars with dogs.

The most essential dog supplies you will need are: a dog bed, a bowl, a collar, health products, a cage, a toy, maybe even dog clothes if you want your dog to look cool. It is indicated that you buy only the dog supplies that have been dog tested, to avoid any accidents and illnesses.

If you do not have time to go to a dog store and buy these dog supplies, you can access the internet and order from there the needed dog products.

You must be very attentive when buying any dog supply because some might not fit your dog. The dog bed must be on its size otherwise the poor pet might not rest as comfortably as you initially wanted to. The bowl must too match your dog size because some might not feed enough if they have a small bowl and might also make a mess around when eating.

Other dog supplies that must be chosen by your dog type are the food. Picking up the right food means: choosing the right food for the right age group: puppies, adult dogs or senior pets. Within the age group pick the right dog weight category; try different types of food for your dog to get a feel for what he likes and dislikes and offer your dog variety because no one likes eating the same things every day.

Bones are a dog's favorite supply. A dog will always be happy when receiving a bone. This kind of treats must be carefully chosen because they can lead to the dog's choking if they are too small.

Other requested dog supplies in dog stores are the dog houses. They are designed for the dogs that sleep outside the house. They will require a dog blanket too.

These dog supplies are regular ones and everybody affords them. Besides these, there exist other dog supplies which are more expensive and not every owner wants those products for its dog. Some of them are: dog clothes, boots, jackets and sweaters, and dog jewelry.

Also, if you have doubts on a dog supply you can always ask details about it at the shop you bought if from. The dog store's personnel will gladly answer your questions about any dog supply.

If you are looking for a large variety of dog supplies fallow this links. At http://www.familypet.com you will find any dog supply that will make your beloved pets life happy.

Dog Supplies Primer

It's been medically proven that owning a pet is beneficial to your health. All pets provide friendship, compassion and loyalty, but dogs seem to possess these traits more than any other animal. Dogs also relieve stress and help attract friends/love interests more than any other pet. Because of these obvious benefits, why not treat your pet to the best dog supplies?

The first things any dog owner should have are a quality leash and collar. Leashes come in two types: standard and retractable. Standard leashes are usually made from thick nylon and they are good for keeping your animal close. Most trainers recommend having one of these leashes during the training period of a dog's life because they instill obedience and closeness with the dog's master. For small dogs and puppies, many people like to buy retractable leashes. Retractables can reach between 20 and 30 feet, indulging a puppy's natural sense of inquisitiveness. However, it's very easy to get the cord tangled in bushes or trees if you let your animal get too far.

Collars are also necessary to hold your animal's identification tags. Free ranging dogs often get into trouble and many get picked up by Animal Control, where they run the risk of being put to sleep and at the least it will cost you a pretty penny to free them. Most collar-packaging will help you figure out the correct size for your animal, but common sense plays a large part. For instance, a half-inch width will not be sufficient to control a Great Dane.

Training collars are available to help train dogs not to bark or venture out of their yards. These work by sending a small electronic shock detected by the vibrations in the dog's vocal chord. With the invisible dog fence collars, the owner sets up a barrier around their house and if the dog oversteps the line, they also receive a small shock. Other training collars include choke chains, which tighten around your pet's neck when they stray too far. Shock and choke collars have proven to be effective training tools, but many people are not comfortable with inflicting pain on their dogs and consider the collars to be cruel.

Other important dog supplies include the type of food that you feed your pet. Because dogs need different nutrients throughout their lives, it's impossible to say that one brand or food company is the best. The foods that get the highest consumer ratings, however, are brands that contain less grains and more potatoes and carbohydrates. Foods that also incorporate meats such as turkey, chicken in addition to high-quality fruits are also the best for your dog. The only downside to these foods is that the high amount of protein may cause your pet discomfort at first while it adjusts to the diet. Puppies should not eat food this rich.

Toys are optional, but you'll be happy when you find them chewing on a rope bone rather than your expensive shoes. All puppies go through a chewing stage because it helps them with their oral development. Chew toys are designed to encourage them to not chew on household items/furniture.

Dog Supplies An Important Part Of Every Dog's Growth

For a person who is new at handling dogs and taking care of them can face a lot of difficulties. Bringing a pet into the home means giving selfless love and a lot of care but survival requires more than this. A very vital need in the healthy growth of the pet is dog supplies. These are important as the dogs requirements are also needed to be fulfilled.

There are various types of supplies that are available in the market. What you should buy solely depends upon the breed of the dog that you have, his size and also sometimes if he is to be trained for professional purposes.

The owners find things collars, dog beds, leash, dog chews etc quite unavoidable and have to buy them. These are general grooming supplies that are necessary for the dogs. While you are training your dog, it is very important to ensure your own safety. Bite protection sleeves and full protection suits are important in case the dog gets violent and attacks you. Also, training collars are a great help in getting control over the dogs.

If you are training your dog for hunting purposes and as a chaperone for you, then it is important that you ensure the safety of your pet too. He should be equipped with the right measures so that he does not get hurt and injure himself. Also, camping equipment for dogs is also available so that they undergo no inconvenience when out with the owners on camping trips.

Also, dog beds are one of the most important requirements for the good health of the pet. Since a good night's sleep is equally important for them too, a nice and cosy is important so that the dogs can feel at home there. There are various options available depending upon the choice of the owner and the size of the pet. Other pet supplies include dog feeders, tote bags for small dogs, leash, dog doors etc.

All the necessary supplies that are required can be obtained through online dealers. They offer a wider range and often customize articles according to your dog. Choose your requirements and place your orders easily.

Ignoring these dog supplies is certainly not a great idea as this may affect your dog directly. Of course it is important to shower your pet with all the care and necessary provisions as well.

Basic Dog Grooming Supplies

By spending approximately $15-$50 dollars depending upon your dog and your exact needs, it is possible to have the main supplies and tools that are needed and necessary to groom your dog yourself. Only thing to remember is gather all of your supplies before starting, and whenever possible buy good quality tools so they are sharp and work well. Poor quality tools can either rip or tear your dogs' fur coat, or even chip the nails. You want good quality so the results look equally good once you are done. Not all of these tools are essential for every breed, while other breeds may require more tools; however, this is a good basic list to start with so you can begin your search and quest for the perfect grooming tool kit for your house.

Essential #1. Currycombs are made out of rigid metal point and they have a wooden or plastic handle. They are very useful if you are looking to get rid of large amounts of hair that has shed (such as for German Shepherds), currycombs are also used to untangle knots in certain parts of the dog's body such as their ears, paws or tail. It is very important to use this instrument carefully as it can cause harm to the dog's skin if pulled on too hard.

Essential #2. Dog brushes:There are many different types of brushes for dogs; however, professional dog groomers do not use them that much because they prefer to use teasels. Brushes are great for breeds that have long and fragile hair, especially if the coat is being properly taken care of. You can choose between metal brushes, plastic ones, hard ones of soft ones.

Essential #3. Dog trimmers: Trimming blades have a plastic or wooden handle and they help the dog owner to easily pull out small patches of dead hair by grabbing the dead hair in between the blade and your thumb. The size of the trimming blade can be medium size for areas that need to be well trimmed such as the stomach, and or fine for the areas that need to be shaved such as the throat, ears etc.

Essential #4. Dog nail clippers are an indispensable item. It is important to learn how to trim your dog's nails and to do it neatly. There are two different and basic types of nail clippers, both of which work well. One is the guillotine style clipper, and the other is the standard scissors style nail clipper. These models come in different sizes. The basic models work just fine. When the nail cutter no longer cuts its time to get a new one.

Essential Dog Supplies

Owning a dog requires a lot of care and maintenance. You are responsible for a living creature from whom you receive so much love and attention, and your pet definitely deserves the best. However, with the introduction of so many kinds of dog supplies available in the market, a dog owner such as your self is often confused on what is essential and what is not.A human’s most basic needs include food, money, shelter, and clothing. Your dog’s needs may not be too different after all.Sufficient food and waterApparently, a living creature’s needs do not vary that much where food is concerned. Humans and animals alike need clean and safe food and water to sustain life. Thus, ensuring your dog receives adequate amounts of food and water should be properly observed.Choosing the right dog food is very important in maintaining a healthy dog. In recent years, animal doctors have advised dog owners to stop feeding dogs table scraps. Moreover, it has been said that the food of the owner is not necessarily good for his dog because of special dietary requirements of dogs. Thus, dog foods were created and developed to be able to provide dogs with the sufficient vitamins and minerals. There is, however, an existing opposing belief about dog foods and studies have shown some dog food to be actually detrimental to a dog’s health.

The type of dog food that is not recommended by some if not most animal doctors, are the mass-produced type which are considered low quality and are said to contain a number of harmful chemicals and preservatives. Thus, choosing the right dog food for your pet is very important to ensure a long healthy life.Decent shelterYour dog will be living with you and you must make certain that your home is suitable to accommodate a dog. There are sanitary and health standards that must be observed where a dog’s home is concerned. For one, dogs are prone to fleas and ticks and your home must be free of such pests. There are dog supplies available in the market today that will make this task easier. There are sprays and cleaning agents that can be used to guarantee a house free of such harmful elements. Moreover, your dog must be bathed regularly with the use of specially formulated soaps and shampoos which will help in maintaining the healthy coat of hair on your dog.Dog beds are optional, although a number of these are available in your local pet store. Their beds and/or cages must also be cleaned regularly so they will pest-free.Clothing for protectionFashionable clothing is also available for dogs. This however is not necessarily a must, although they may be helpful in cases of extreme weather. Other dog supplies such as collars and leashes among others fall under this category as well.Despite any budgetary constraints that you may have, your dog has essential needs that cannot be disregarded. Furthermore, no amount of money and dog supplies can replace your love, care and attention.

Dog Supplies What's Needed Versus What Might Be Fun to Have

Buying a new dog is more than simply finding the cutest puppy in the store and buying a bag of dog food. Acquiring a new canine is nearly as important as adopting a child. They need constant attention and love and buying the proper supplies can be as confusing as deciding what kind of dog to get in the first place. So I’m here to help you. When you first walk into a pet store you will be bombarded by everything from designer clothes to dog food, and the salesmen are rarely any help. They’re goal is to sell you everything you lay your eyes on. But in reality there are really only a few basic things you need to make your new family member comfortable and you a happy dog owner.First and foremost, buy a book about your breed. All breeds are very different and have different needs and personality quirks. But at the same time, don’t think of the book as the end all and be all of how your dog is supposed to behave. Like people, dogs each have their own personalities. The book is there simply to give you guidance.Second, get a good collar. Make sure you can stick at least two fingers between the dog’s skin and the collar. Also make sure you get a collar that allows plenty of room for growth. Some breeds grow very fast and you don’t want to be replacing the collar every two weeks during your puppy’s first year.

Also, get a good training collar. These come in many, many sizes and types. The two most popular types are called the choke chain and the German pinch collar. But don’t let the names scare you. These two training collars are the best for teaching your dog to heal and to walk on the end of a leash without jerking your arm out of the socket. Both collars have their pros and cons. The choke chain is easy to use and doesn’t “look” cruel. But you have to replace it as the dog gets bigger and depending on the breed, this can get very expensive. The German choke chain “looks” evil but as the dog grows bigger you can simply add additional links. But the biggest thing to remember with both collars is to “never” use the collar as your dog’s everyday collar. Dog owner’s can grow very lazy when using these collars and forget to check them. It’s not uncommon for an owner to forget to check the collar and end up having to cut the collar off because the dog grew so big the collar would no longer fit over its head. Choke chains and German pinch collars are to be used for training purposes only. The other supplies needed for happy dogs are simple:* A weighted food and water bowl. Dogs, especially puppies, seem to have a fondness for playing in their dinner as much as eating it.* A well made crate or dog house, depending on whether or not the dog will be an inside or outside dog; at least three leashes of varying lengths, used for training and walking purposes. The book you get will explain how the different sized leashes are used in training.* Chew toys, chew toys, chew toys. Dogs, especially puppies, need to exercise their gums regularly and unless you plan on replacing your furniture, your expensive crown molding and your slippers on a regular basis, get your new friend a wide selection of chew toys.* And finally, DOG FOOD! Despite what some animal rights groups would have you believe, dogs are carnivores. They eat meat. So check the ingredients. If corn and other types of vegetables is the first ingredient listed, your new four-legged friend is not getting what he needs. Look for chicken or beef to be listed as the first ingredient.A few more supplies you will need as the dog gets older, but aren’t necessarily mandatory when you first get your puppy include; a good brush, ID tag and dog treats. Treats are better utilized as just that – treats. Instead of using treats as a training aid, substitute your dog’s favorite toy. Trust me, after about a month you will discover what his favorite toy is.And now for the supplies that might be fun to have. Squeaky toys are very cute in the store and your dog will love them. But they will get very old very quickly. Imagine this scenario. You’ve just walked in the front door from a long day at work. You sit down to watch TV and decompress and from the other side of the room you hear, “Squeak, squeak, squeak, squeak.” That will get old very quickly. And even though they’re cute, please save your dog’s dignity and avoid buying any clothes, designer or otherwise, for Fido. Have you ever really looked at a dog’s face when he’s wearing clothes? He’s embarrassed. A good rule of thumb to use is this – if you wouldn’t be seen in public wearing it, don’t make your dog wear it. Have fun with your new family member. You may republish this article with full credit to the author and the 2 URL's hyperlinked.

However, it's very easy to get the cord tangled in bushes or trees if you let your animal get too far.Collars are also necessary to hold your animal's identification tags.

Shock and choke collars have proven to be effective training tools, but many people are not comfortable with inflicting pain on their dogs and consider the collars to be cruel.Other important dog supplies include the type of food that you feed your pet. Puppies should not eat food this rich.Toys are optional, but you'll be happy when you find them chewing on a rope bone rather than your expensive shoes. All puppies go through a chewing stage because it helps them with their oral development. Chew toys are designed to encourage them to not chew on household items/furniture.

Dog Supplies - Get The Right Stuff For Your New Pet

Brining a new dog into your home is an exciting time for the whole family, not to mention the dog. Whether it's a new puppy, or an older dog being rescued from the animal shelter, there are a lot of things you are going to need to have for this new addition. The first dog supplies you should buy, before you even bring the dog home, are a food and water bowl, collar, leash, food and a bed. If you have another dog in the home and were thinking of having them both share a bowl, think again. Sometimes a new dog can be aggressive, or be attacked when trying to feed in a joint bowl. It's best to let the dog know what is his, for food and water. You also need the food to fill that bowl. If you are bringing home a puppy, make sure the food you select is age appropriate and will give him all the vitamins he needs for a growing puppy body. You may want to call your family veterinarian for advice on which food to use. For an older dog, there is a little more flexibility, since their body has done most of its growing. You may still want to check with your vet on what would be best. This is especially important if you are taking on a dog with medical issues.Depending on if you will have to take your dog for a walk, or are going to do obedience training, you may or may not need a leash, but you will need to add a collar to your dog supplies list. Collars, with identification, are good to have to make sure your dog can be returned to you, if he gets out, and also as a way to grab a hold of him if you need to get his attention.

Dog beds are essential in your dog supplies. All dogs need to feel as if they have a space that is all their own, and this bed will be their safe haven. Now that you have the basics you don't want your dog to be bored or boring, so make sure there are some fun dog supplies in his life. When it comes to toys, dogs are like kids, some will like one toy, and some will like another. It's a game of trial and error to figure out what will work for your new pet. One thing you should not do is teach your dog that stuffed animals are toys, if you have children in the house. He will think their stuffed animals are his too, because you've taught him they're fair game. You have foods you enjoy as a treat, so should your dog. There are a number of dog treats on the market that most dogs would approve. These can be used as reinforcement when the dog does something you want him to, or just because you are both lounging on the sofa watching a sitcom. Just like candy and cake in humans, don't overdo the dog treats; it can make for a pooch with a sick stomach. By Jennifer Akre

By Groshan Fabiola

Dog Care Supplies

Dog care supplies mean much more than just basic food and shelter for dogs. In fact, dog supplies nowadays include everything that may keep a dog happy and healthy. There are many pet shops that offer a comprehensive range of dog supplies. Dog care supplies are categorized as basic, functional and pampering. Basic dog supplies include dog collars, grooming supplies, beds, kennels and food. The functional dog supplies include gates, doors, and fences, and dog treats, toys and aromatherapy massage oils are examples of pampering supplies. Dog beds are among the most important basic supplies. Beds help keep a dog's bones and joints healthy. Many pet shops stock dog-training supplies that are essentially training aids and equipment designed to make a dog's training easier and more effective. They also include special dog collars designed to punish a dog for undesirable behavior. Doghouses come in different size and makes, including plastic and wooden houses. A good doghouse should be big enough for a dog to turn freely inside and must be durable enough to provide long-term shelter. Dog-grooming supplies include dog shampoos, conditioners; nail clippers, brushes and combs.

There are also specific dog hygiene supplies for a dog's ears, eyes and teeth. There are three types of dog food -- moist, dry and semi-moist dog food. Dog food should be nutritionally balanced regardless of its form. In addition, all dog food supplies should be stored properly in a cool dry place, so that the nutritional value is not lost. Dog health care supplies are fast becoming an integral part of dog care. General dog health care supplies can be purchased without prescriptions. They include dog vitamins and supplements, flea, tick care dog supplies and dog dental care products. Pampering dog supplies include everything from dog crates, grooming supplies, toys, and costumes. These supplies are available online and dog owners can order by looking through online catalogues. By Alison Cole
